hi. sorry if this shouldn't be here, wasn't sure which board to post in.
i'm trying to campaign for companies to make pregnancy tests accessible with
either an audible gleep/vibration or an app which can read the results. i wanted
to give everyone on here the opportunity to add their support if they wished to.
the response so far has been encouraging.
here is the link

make-pregnancy-tests-accessible-to-all
thanks. Philippa

Ooo, I'd love that. I hated when I had to go to planned parenthood just to figure out whether I was pregnant or not since no one sighted that I trusted enough was around at teh time, and both my partner and myself are totally blind. This would be awesome. And maybe even possible due to the accessibility of smart phones today.

It certainly seems possible, they can do accessible glucose meters so why not pregnancy tests. I certainly support this.
And I won't be surprised to find out certain organizations who opposed accessible prescription labels would also oppose this.
I think anyone who is sensible and rational would support it.

it's funny you post about this; I just wrote to the Ausie blindy lists a few weeks ago about this very topic.
I would love to see accessible pregnancy tests available.

Leo, what groups are against accessible prescription labels?
Thanks.

It shouldn't require an app. the test stick could emit a beep or two, or a long beep, or whatever, for a particular result. This should not be complicated, expensive or so impossible!

There was some segment on a BBC radio program about the lack of accessible tests. I think the show was from 2011, is still available to hear, online.

Thank you for bringing attention to this matter. It's one I care about, a great deal.

It is humiliating to *have* to include other people--often strangers--in what should be private! Or to have to pay to get an answer, and pay much more than someone who is able to pick up a relatively cheap test from the drugstore.

Ovulation predictor tests should be made accessible also, while they're at it.

I adore the post above mine. If I was to become pregnant I wouldn't want to let in anyone know until I knew for sure. Having an accessible test would be really great. I support it definitely.

also this link isn't working for me, for some odd reason.

Totally support this!! Great idea!

oh so cool and I support this 100% and interesting to see this as years and years ago I had asked a doctor how a blind or person with low vision was able to know the results of a pregnancy test and he was unable to give me a good reasonable answer so good on you and it will be nice to hear how things develop further with this.

This... is... so awesome!!! I had to use Tap Tap see with my test and after
taking two pictures to it, it told me the negative result. It'd be amazing to not
have to do that again it really shouldn't be that difficult to work out how that
gets done. I totally support this a hundred percent and will do whatever I can to
help make this happen. I agree with Bernadetta, I'd hate to have to just go
somewhere just to find out I was pregnant, or to ask other people. My boyfriend
being totally blind as well.

Wow, TapTapSee manage to read a pregnancy test? That's actually impressive. I too am in favor of this. Years ago, when I thought I was pregnant, I was dreading to have to go somewhere to find out for sure, since the guy I was with at the time was also totally blind, as am I. Thankfully I didn't have to do that, but I remember wishing so badly that I could just find out myself, instead of trying to figure out where I was going to go, how to get there, and just generally not wanting anyone else involved. To anyone who is involved with either of the consumer organizations, this could be an interesting resolution to bring to either or both of the Conventions next year.

I agree though I have had doctor's do one for me and thank goodness they were negative results but still it is nice if you can do it in the privacy of your own home just like some one sighted can.
Be good to hear further developments on this

Latino, if you don't mind the question, which brand test did you get, that worked with Tap Tap See? This info would be so helpful!

Maybe one of the digital ones would be easier to decipher, over the phone. Is that what you had?

companies still need to produce an audible test, however.

To the OP, please give us an update on this project, if you get anyone to take notice.

I'm not convinced potitions like this actually work, but it's a great idea, nonetheless.
